Amanda presents nationally as a member of the National Leadership Team for Appreciative Advising, where she trains and encourages faculty and professional advisors and other administrators to help college students succeed through the application of the Appreciative Advising Framework. She has delivered numerous workshops and training sessions, developed first-year seminars using the Appreciative College Instruction model, and serves on the faculty of the annual Appreciative Advising Institute. Amanda has a passion for positively impacting higher education to create experiences that promote college students thriving.
Throughout her over 15-year career in higher education administration, Amanda has focused on helping college students achieve their full potentials, and has particular expertise in cultivating high-achieving students. Amanda serves as the Director of the Office of Appreciative Education at Florida Atlantic University. Previously, Amanda served as the Founding Director of the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) where she enjoyed enthusiastically advising students and alumni who aspire to compete for nationally prestigious scholarships and fellowships, and related opportunities. Prior, Amanda served as the Pre-Professional Advisor in the GVSU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Academic Advising Center; Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and the Medical Scholars Program, one of the nation’s largest MD/PhD Programs at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign; and Coordinator of the Student Leadership Program at the University of Texas-Pan American. Amanda also serves as an Affiliate Consultant with CREDO Higher Education Consulting Firm.
Amanda holds a B.A. in speech-organizational communication with Honors from the University of Texas-Pan American; an M.A. in speech communication with specializations in organizational communication, training and development, and student affairs from Texas State University, and a Ph.D. in higher education with an emphasis in college student success from Azusa Pacific University.
