Rusty Fox, PH.D.

Though his rugged good looks and youthful energy (joke) might indicate otherwise, Rusty begins his 29th year in academic advising, with 24 as a Student Affairs leader. He serves Doña Ana Community College as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Strategic Enrollment Planning officer. He was Dean at Mountain View College in Dallas, Oklahoma City Community College, and Tarrant County College Southeast Campus. The latter institution where he spent a decade and a half as Dean then Vice President for Student Development, is an Achieving the Dream Leader College. Rusty began his career as an academic advisor in graduate school.
In addition to working with the faculty at the Appreciative Advising Institute, and having taught the Appreciative Advising course on-line for Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Fox authored the chapter on Delivering One-to-One Advising in NACADA’s Comprehensive Handbook, 2nd Ed. He is a chapter co-author in AACC/First-Year Experience’s monograph,Fulfilling the Promise of the Community College, from which he and his collaborator led a webinar with Innovative Educators. He greatly enjoys collaborating with advisors/administrators as a longtime faculty member of NACADA’s Summer Institute and with their Consultant and Speaker’s Service, which takes him to campuses around the nation. He has a particular interest in Appreciative Administration, and is currently working on a series of articles with a fellow counseling colleague on that topic.
